This week Maker Market takes a look at some of the amazing brick and mortar stores focusing on local handmade wares. These stores each have their own individual aesthetic and vision and help to keep Milwaukee creative!
Hometown Established is Milwaukee's newest retail destination. Located at 130 W. Mineral St. Hometown Est. focuses on local handmade home goods, jewelry, and gifts. This store also hosts a rotating gallery and artist taught educational classes.
Hot Pop, located at 201 N. Water Street focuses on art based home goods, accessories, and designer toys. It also has a large selection of locally made goods as well as a gallery that highlights both local and regional artists
Since 2009, Sparrow Collective has been a place to find local and regional handmade items from clothing and jewelry to gifts and housewares. With over 90 independent designers there is something for everyone! Located at 2224 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. in Bay View, Sparrow is a must stop destination for the holiday season.
The Waxwing, located at 4415 N. Oakland Ave. in Shorewood, focuses on local art and handmade gifts hosting over 100 artists. Owner and artist, Steph Davies, carefully curates this wonderful store filled with unique finds.
Our Daily Salt
Chef Felisha Wild opened Our Daily Salt in July of 2014. Located at 3519 West National Ave, this store focuses on quality woodwork, such as handmade cutting boards, rolling pins and other beautifully crafted kitchen utensils. Our Daily Salt also features works from many other local artists and makers.
Hyde Park Tailor and Cleaners
Hyde Park Tailor and Cleaners opened in the 1930's and has been providing the neighborhood with custom tailoring and dry cleaning for many decades. In October of this year, Sydney Deutsch took over the family business. In addition to maintaining the tailoring and dry cleaning, the store will also feature locally made apparel, home goods and gifts as well as beautifully curated items from all over the world. Located at 6738 W. Wells Street in Wauwatosa.
